Minisink, NY, Sept. 8th, 2014- Dozens of emergency vehicles rushed into Minisink and blocked Jacobs Rd. last night when a strong gas smell was detected in the vicinity of the Minisink Compressor, shortly after 7:00 p.m. Volunteer Fire Department officials reported the leak to Millennium/Columbia Gas, and waited over an hour on Jacobs Rd. with fire and EMS vehicles stationed all along the road. Columbia Gas representatives arrived at approximately 8:45 p.m. and deemed the situation as safe, before dispersing the emergency response units.

This concerning event occurred just three weeks after the Minisink community learned they had lost their case against the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and Millennium Pipeline, Inc. at the U.S. Court of Appeals. Legal options going forward are being discussed with the community’s lawyer, D.C.-based Carolyn Elefant.
On Monday July 7 2014, Millennium Pipeline Company will be performing an annual Emergency Shutdown Test (EST) at the Minisink Compressor Station. Millennium Pipeline Company, with FERC and NYSDEP approval, will be venting natural gas and other emissions into the
